Gateway, you have got some amazing people on your side.  Seriously.

The other really cool thing that happened as a result of this weekend (well gosh, one of many, but I’m just going to share one right now) was that I had a literal epiphany about worship.  I’ve always known that some people worship by singing, some by writing poems, some give financially, some pray, some dance, some paint, some love or serve really really well… the list goes on.  We’re all called to worship in many of these ways, but some are gifted in different areas more than others.  But that’s awesome.  That’s why the church is a body and it’s made up of many parts.  “If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be?  If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?”

I think because I work with my camera for a living, sometimes when I go to events or out with friends I just want to go and experience the event live.  See it with my own two eyes.  Instead of trying to capture it so I can remember it or relive it later, I try to just experience it right then and there.  Even if I forget the whole thing at least I was there and fully present, ya know?  John Mayer’s lyrics from his song ‘3×5′ really resonate with me sometimes…

Didn’t have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world through both my eyes

Today I finally overcame
tryin’ to fit the world inside a picture frame

You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
it brought me back to life

So yes, sometimes I just want to be there and live it.  But sometimes I know I will want to have that memory to remember forever because let’s face it, I have a horrible memory, which is why I do love my pictures oh so much.

And then sometimes I come to this glorious intersection where I can both be fully a part of an experience and photograph it all.  It’s this lovely Bermuda Triangle of both being fully present and capturing those moments as a treasure for later.

Yesterday was one of those days.

And the most wonderful thing I experienced about spending a day in the middle of this being-and-capturing-intersection was the freedom, anointing, passion and inspiration that I felt.  When a friend spoke the following line to me on Facebook this morning I realized why it made so much sense…

He said, “Thanks lisa for sharing your gifts, talents and time. I can see you worshiping the creator with your camera in your hands.”

And that’s when it hit me.  I was worshiping God yesterday… with my camera.

I felt like it was all from Him and for Him.  Like He was inspiring and moving me as I went.  I really can worship God with my camera.  Some sing songs, some pray, some dance… me?  I capture Holy moments with my lens… it’s my offering to You, Lord.  I’ve never thought about it that way.

So here is my offering.  I hope it is pleasing to you, God.

And if you don’t know yet, I hope you my friends are inspired to find how God has wired you to worship.  It will breathe life and joy into you.

we were in the car the other day and jonah made the sweetest little head-resting-on-his-fists face at me when i looked back at him.  those middle two are as close as he would give me once i got my camera out.  the first and last are the ham-ness that took place before and after.

phew!  i just wanted to get that off my chest so as to set the bar loooow for this next post.  as you’ll notice from the title it implies something that might happen every monday.  well i just want to let you know that i’m just not that kind of girl.  i wish i was.  i have aspirations of making it through that read your Bible in a year Bible in at least the next 2 or 3 years.  maybe someday completing a 365 project (where you take a photo a day for a whole year).  maybe even completing my training for that 5k that i signed up for in october (gee, i better get on that!  …actually i’m blaming my late start on 6 weeks of bronchitis – pretty legit, i think).

anyway, it’s monday and i got the idea of starting a weekly post of a cool movie or show i’ve seen.  just to forewarn you: i love random, quirky, indie, non-mainstream movies.  if the average american thought it was bizarre or boring, i probably loved it.

note: it’ll be helpful if you have netflix streaming.  this is pretty much the source of all the stuff i see lately since we don’t have tv service/cable.

now this first one is probably a-typical of the types of stuff i’ll be sharing (if i ever do this again), but whatev’s.  let the randomness begin.

shaun the sheep. have you seen this?  utter brilliance (i wish it was about cows because that would have made a great pun).  it’s a show the whole family will love.  shaun and his herd (isn’t that what you call a group of sheep?) live on the farm of this dim-witted farmer guy.  they have a watch dog who drinks coffee and blows a whistle to get the sheep to do stuff.  and whenever the farmer isn’t looking shaun leads the sheep in mayhem.  sometimes they’re naughty (like when they sneak into the house and wreck stuff) but sometimes they’re helpful (like when they lock the guy in the barn and soup up his tractor).

i was going to tell you who my favorite character was, but i can’t choose just one.  between shaun, the dog, the baby sheep with the bink, and the giant sheep who’s always got junk hiding in his wool i just can’t decide.

so check it out.  netflix streaming.  brilliant.  3 thumbs up.  you’ll love it!  your kids will love it.  you’ll be addicted… just like my family.

And then small world number two… Belinda’s niece went to school where my MIL used to be the principal and so the family knew my MIL (and loved her).

Because they came from out of town, I didn’t have a chance to meet either the bride or the groom before their big day, but I love that that didn’t matter. They were both so down-to-earth, I felt instantly comfortable with both of them. We all had the best laugh when I almost got run over by a golf cart when we were out taking pictures on the path next to the clubhouse. I was wondering why Belinda was laughing so hard. Apparently it’s because they said there was a golf cart coming and I was so enthralled with getting my shot I totally didn’t notice…

Dedication & focus: it’s a blessing and a curse. =)
